CONFLUENCE ANNOUNCES FIRST ALGAL TOXIN SUMMIT OF LEADING SCIENTISTS AND TECHNOLOGISTS TO ADDRESS HARMFUL ALGAE BLOOMS

The Algal Toxin Summit will take place on October 22, 2014, at TechSolve in Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH (October 17, 2014) – Confluence, the water technology innovation cluster in the Ohio River Valley Region, will bring together leading experts in water technology, utility treatment, water quality and monitoring to share information and ideas regarding the algal toxin challenge to safe drinking water.

Ohio was the first state to have a big city forced to shut down its water supply due to algal toxin contamination. 450,00 people in Toledo were without safe drinking water for over two days. Harmful algal blooms are a major environment problem in all 50 states.

With more water technology patents per capital that any other region of the country, more test beds and over 6,000 scientist dedicated to water technology innovation, the Confluence cluster is uniquely positioned to facilitate this critical and timely discussion.

Representatives from local, state and federal agencies, universities, utilities, large and small companies, startups and entrepreneurs will participate. The Summit will be by invitation only from 10am-4pm at TechSolve, followed by a “Making Water Connections” networking event at MadTree Brewery, 5164 Kennedy Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45213. The “Making Water Connections” event at MadTree Brewery is open to the public.
